The Triquetra (tri - kwe - tra) is an ancient symbol of the female trinity of Dana, the mother of Brigid and all the ancient Irish Gods-”She who is, She who was, and She who will be.”  The interlaced lines of the knot  are considered a symbol of protection-mischievous spirits would have to  penetrate the knot to cause trouble but then spend eternity trying to find their way out of the endless loop. The concept of a trinity had already been the social  foundation for the celtic peoples for thousands of years. The Goddess was considered a trinity for her ancient manifestations had three aspects: The Virgin, The Mother, The Crone.
Many mystical meanings were assigned to this powerful symbol: perfection in thought, word, & deed which  brings forth love, culture, and wisdom.   The triquetra has become a common amulet for women to wear, symbolizing their spritual connection to the ancient ways and living in harmony with life and the light of Goddess.
